Brian was married to his wife, Kelly, in November of 2014. They have two sons, Alexander Joseph and Jackson Lucas, who were born in 2015 and 2017. They reside in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

He began his career as an insurance defense lawyer and then transitioned to public service where he served as a military prosecutor and defense attorney for over a decade in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps. Attorney Ballard has tried numerous cases to a jury verdict and has a robust background and experience in trial advocacy. Following his decade of public service with the Army JAG Corps, Attorney Ballard joined forces with his law school classmate, Brian J. Headley, and together they formed Headley Ballard LLC. Attorney Ballard now specializes in personal injury and medical malpractice cases on behalf of clients in West Virginia and Virginia. He has achieved multi-million dollar jury verdicts and has recovered tens of millions of dollars on behalf of his clients. In 2011 and 2012, while on active duty with the U.S. Army, then-Captain Ballard commanded the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Legal Center and School's Student Detachment. Attorney Ballard carries the distinction of being the first Army JAG in the Corps' history to serve as the commander. He was selected by the ABA as the #1 Young Lawyer for the U.S. Army based on his leadership while in command as well as his combat tours to both Afghanistan and Iraq with the historic 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry).
